Project Development

Finally, in this final week of CPDD lesson and the final physical session for CPDD module, we are required to conduct a presentation of our prototype journey in front of our classmates.

1. Introduction of Our Chemical Device

In the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, it affects our normal lives and also our safety. According to a report done by National Institute of Health, United States of America, it is shown that COVID-19 is stable on surfaces for several hours to days. Normally, COVID-19 is always exist on those commonly touched objects such as door handle, hand grips in public transports and others. Because of that, we are always been advised not to touch our face or rub our eyes with our bare hands which have touched those objects.

For our group, we decided to focus on making the self-sanitizing door handle. For our self-sanitizing door handle, it helps to detect the usage of the door handle, then it will activates the UV lights (we use LED lights instead for our safety purpose) and quickly sanitize the door handle.

2. Team Planning, Tasks Allocation, Project Execution

Lists of members and the allocated tasks:

1. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Team Leader - Joshua

Tasks Allocated - Arduino Programming

2. Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Edmund

Tasks Allocated - CAD Design, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing

3. Chief Security Officer (CSO) - Ambrose (me)

Tasks Allocated - Powerpoint Slides, documents such as Gantt Chart and Bill of Materials (BOM)

Here is the BOM that we have done for this prototype:

4. Problems and solutions:

Problems that we encounteredSolutions to tackle the problems
1. There is not enough space and squeezy to put our electronics items such as Maker UNO, breadboard, female wires into the body of the prototype. As there are important items that we need to put it all together into the body of the prototype such as Maker UNO board, breadboard, female wires, unfortunately we will have to get rid of some of the female wires which occupy most of the spaces in the body of the prototype.
2. The acrylic board could not be laser cut even though we have tried many times. After a quick discussion, we decided to use those remaining plywood inside the FabLab at T11C, as the board for us to attach the prototype using the hot glue gun.
3. The screws could not get through to the board that attached our self-sanitizing door handle. As there are no spaces on the plywood for us to make a small holes to attach the screws through the plywood, therefore we do not have any choice and we just using hot glue gun to attach the whole prototype on the board.
